Fallout 3 is an action role-playing shooter released by Bethesda Game Studios, and is the third major game in the Fallout series. The game was released in North America on October 28, 2008, in Europe and Australia on October 30, 2008, and in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 31, 2008 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 36 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war between the United States and China that devastated the game's world in an alternate post-World War II timeline. The game places the player in the role of an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect a small number of humans from the nuclear fallout. When the player character's father disappears under mysterious circumstances, he or she is forced to escape from the Vault and journey into the ruins of Washington D.C. to track him down. Along the way the player is assisted by a number of human survivors and must battle myriad enemies that now inhabit the area now known as the "Capital Wasteland". The game has an attribute and combat system typical of an action strategy game but also incorporates elements of first-person shooter and survival horror games.

KNOWN BUGS:
VATS LAGS
sometimes when you load a new area the screen gets stuck on the loading but you still play simply wait as it auto-saves THEN RELAUNCH
sometimes there's another mouse in the middle of screen
you might get a program error

FIX:
SIMPLY RELAUNCH THE GAME

For people having trouble opening the screenoptions, here's what I did...

Once you are in the open package for Fallout 3 GOTY, "show package contents" for screenoptions as well, then go through the folders Contents > MacOS. There you have an executable file called WSFullscreen. Click it and that seems to do the trick.

For trouble with the white screen:

You need to download WINE. It's the app that lets you play Windows games on Macs. http://winebottler.kronenberg.org
Be sure to download the stable version.

I am sorry for such a foolish request, but... I downloaded Wine from the site given above (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org), but am uncertain how to access to regedit or, indeed Wine at all. After installing, I try to run Wine and nothing opens. I cannot find regedit at all. I know next to nothing about Wine, so any advice is appreciated!

Just out of curiosity - why do people download this instead of running the Windows version on Bootcamp? Seems like a more straightforward solution...probably way better in terms of performance too?

Okay, so I can't even open the game in the beginning. I tried open package content and changing the resolution and stuff, but I also can't open ScreenOptions or any other thing. When I try openen terminal programs I keep seeing the word CPU. I really want to play this game. I have a Macbook Pro Retina 10.9.5 Mavericks. Please, Please Help.

To everyone with a problem when you successfully get to the menu and crashes at the new game sign, here is your problem & solve. The reason you are crashing to when clicking new game is because your graphic card is terrible or your graphic card is not supported by Fallout 3. If your graphic card is Intel's graphic card then you have a graphic card that isn't supported by Fallout 3. But don't fear, there is always a solution. If Fallout 3 is refusing to play because it cannot identify ur graphic card as a playable card, what should you do? Simple! you tell it that your graphic card is not the graphic card Fallout 3 think it is but a different one. In other word, you are going to fool your Fallout 3. Don't worry about performance because u are fooling your fallout 3. Intel and NVidea work in a very similar way and you won't get much problem. (I want to let you know that the NVidea is far more superior graphic card for gaming compared to Intel, and that you will run into an occasion crash if you are using Intel) So how do u do this? 1. Go to regedit. (it's in ur wineskin's tool section) 2. go to CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D (if there isn't a file Direct 3D just make it) 3. now make two DWORD key. (Edit - New - DWORD) VideoPciDeviceID = 0x00000402 VideoPciVendorID = 0x000010de (after = there are numbers. Those are meant to be for under data. Ur key's name should be just the left of the = sign) Now go to ur wine's set screen options. Unclick Auto detect GPU info for Direct3D. Now ur fallout 3 think u are on a nvidea graphic card. Open fallout 3 launcher and go to options and check if Fallout 3 says u are using nvidea graphic card. If it doesn't say u are using nvidea graphic card u did something wrong. Also highly recommend to lower ur setting as well while u are at the option. Now you should be good to play! If you have another problem just add the comment, I'll try to help also if you thought what I wrote here is helpful please leave a comment! R.J.Lee
