yes , glad to hear that your issue has been resolved !
if you said in one of your comments ?
then i guess that i missed it , ... but what interface is your external HDD ?
is it USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 / eSata or what ?
thank you .
Its 2.0 interface. I didnt have a large enough flash drive, so I had to use my ext hdd. May be I was lucky that it worked.
Thanks for your help
Hey guys.. I am back.. On my desktop finally... I appreciate all the help and advice given by the tech guys here... Dr_Stanley3528 you have been really patient with me. And many others as well..
Just for the record - I was able to boot from my Ext HDD after i extracted the OS on to the ext HDD. This is the first message I am able to get across after installing OS..
Thanks for all the help guys.. Happy Thanksgiving :)
I have a question about making a bootable USB.. Anyone out there?
I followed a youtube video where the user gave clear instructions on how to make an ext HDD active and bootable. My question is, after going through that, do i INSTALL the OS in that drive or Do I jsut EXTRACT my OS into the HDD?
Alright.. I am emptying my HDD. Once empty I will make it my bootable drive and everything should be ok after that. if not, then its something else at fault.
usb option is good but still need your dvd ... if you have a spare swap for test ... are the sata/ide cables also plugged
All the cables are set. I do not have a spare drive. but I might buy one. I am looking for a tutorial that will help me with booting with the USB option.
Try installing you system from a USB stick.
Okay. Other than that? Do I need a new optical drive?
if you say all systems go for boot and doesn't, then you got a bad dvd drive ... makes no difference if the tray opens or not, it's not reading your disc
Ok. So whats the alternative?
your problem can't be fixed until the dvd boots so either the dvd drive is disabled in bios and not recognized or you have a bad connection or drive ... or your disk is not bootable which is why it is skipping the boot ptocess
first boot device:cdrom
second boot device:hard disk
1. The DVD drive is enabled and is selected as First Boot Device
2. The DVD is not at fault. I installed Win 7 using the same DVD and it works fine. I have another CD - with XP and it doesnt run as well.
3. I checked the cables again and again. They are working fine. The optical drive adn HDD are getting enough power as I am able to load the DVD and get it off and the drive runs for a while before stopping.
I dont need data. I am trying to re-install Win7. SO i have the OS DVD in the drive. But it stops running after few secs.
Hey guys, I am back. Sorry for the unexplained absence. I had a minor emergency.
So, regarding my issue - My HDD has some issues, so I tried partitioning and it went crazy as it wouldnot boot from HDD or CD/DVD. I connected my HDD to another computer and choose to format it. After doing so, I connected it to my computer and tried booting it. Now I got a new issue - Disk Boot Error,Insert System Disk - even after inserting the OS DVD it would not run. I made sure that the boot order was changed to DVD. I looked it up online and checked and re-checked all the cables and wires were connected. I can see that in BIOS my HDD is being detected, so that rules out disk damage. I can open and close optical drive, so it has power. But it does not run beyond 10 secs.. Can someone help me???
