Have those in charge lost the plot?

I know that it's still April, but April fool's day passed a long time ago! However I thought it was groundhog day for me when i read this article in the news. News Link
Are they serious? do they expect terrorists to launch Ballistic Missiles against the London games?, or maybe they are expecting the Terrorists air force to bomb London instead? can anyone please tell me which Terrorist organisation has their own Ballistic missile silo's and/or their own Air bases where they launch fighter or Bomber aircraft from? I would dearly like to know.
.
Or perhaps they fear Terrorists are going to hijack an aircraft and target the games? if so will they launch the missile(s) and blow it up over london? with great loss of life and property not to mention huge fires due to burning aviation fuel causing even more damage and loss of life.
.
If the Authorities are as worried as they appear to be, then perhaps they ought to start thinking about cancelling the games and thereby protecting possibly millions of innocent people's lives by not exposing them to this kind of danger!
.
Unless of course it is just for 'show'? 'we are stronger than you, so don't even attempt it' actions like this, akin to throwing down the gauntlett so to speak, will only make any one of the organisations more determined to succeed in some ill deed, again resulting in mass pain, suffering and loss for the innocents of this world. And these 'well educated' and 'intelligent' people are elected to look after a whole country?
.
That's my rant for now, anyone anything to add?

Giving in to terrorists and canceling the games would be like telling them they've won already. Once they have that mental hold on us they win.

It might just be me, but it could also be part of a bigger agenda.
"Hey, we managed to get a missile on the roof without too much fuss. The more we do it, the more the public will get used to it".
Maybe it's just the beginning. I just don't trust governments, sorry.

Pringlescan, the terrorists HAVE won! Tried to get on an airplane lately? Taken a good look at what remains of the Bill of Rights? The Constitution? They have won a victory unequaled in modern history.

Pringlescan, it is not a matter of giving in to terrorists so they think they have won, there has been NO credible threat of an aerial assault by ANY terrorist organisation, and it unlikely there will be, hence BleuLady's comment about overkill is absolutely correct.
There has been a credible threat of a ground attack, possibly using chemicals as the basis, and this threat is being addressed.
However the point regarding 'not letting the terrorists claim victory' has already been lost, definition of a terrorist: One who terrorizes or frightens others, if you look around you, who are the biggest terrorizers? i can assure you that the Governments and Media do far more to further the terrorists aims, (by way of frightening a wider number of the uninformed public) than most terrorist organisations could achieve in several years.
So Overkill? YES! ABSOLUTELY, incidents like this cause more fear and alarm to the general public than the actual perceived threats from the organisations concerned. Oh one mo! there's a bird on my garden eating some of my grass seed! now where did i put my Howitzer?.....

I was in high school when the "war on terror" started. I remember the whole "shock and awe" campaign. But what I remember the most was when one of my teachers posed a question to us. "how do you fight an idea?" to this day I still can't answer that question.
He also followed it up a few days later with another stumping question. "where the crusaders not the terrorists of their time?"

pp kind of pinched my main point, you'd be surprised just what is in London already especially since the IRA had their mortar attack on number 10 long before the war on terror. All this publicity is just for the government to be able to say look, we take security seriously, your athletes are safe with us.
Alternatively and a little more cynically perhaps the terrorists have been a little too quiet lately and big brother is taking the opportunity to say look at all this we are doing to keep you safe, now please shut up and pay your taxes.

Wow your complaining about the Government trying to protect you from attacks!
id bet you would complain more if the attacks happened and they didnt try to stop them.
.
would you complain if they put a cop on your block to keep the gang of thugs from terrorizing you and your neighbors or would you complain if there wasn't a cop in the neighborhood and the gang robbed you
which one is better or worse
