Hello again my little Nincompoops heehe
I don't know what it is but it sounds funny.

okey lets get started, i have ben thinking about musicians lately.
You can make music from computers now a days aswel as instruments so:

My question for today is: Do you think someone that makes music from a computer realy is a musician? or do they have to use real instruments ?

Making music is more than just knowing how to play an instrument. There are Beats per minute taken into account, there are music layers involved. Knowing how to play an instrument helps, but it doesn't make you a great music composer.
There are great DJ's out there who make phenomenal stuff with just their Notebook's, they go out into the world and find samples and effects for their music piece.
So, in my opinion a musician is supposed to be creative and should know how to put those pieces together to create a melody that can soothe the savage beast.

Anything that can create a sound can be an instrument capable of creating music (I say anything, I am not including bottoms) and since we have been producing sounds electronically with synthesizers and various other electronic devices for quite a long time now it would be hard to argue against computers being considered instruments. What really makes music though is a musician, if you have no ability then it doesn’t matter if you use a computer or a piano, what you are going to create is noise not music.

(oh by the way, a Nincompoop is a stupid or foolish person, so you are quite correct to address us like that since most of us fit that description rather well)lol

A musician makes music any way they can using whatever tool is needed (practice makes perfect). I can make music just by putting my hand under my arm (as he puts right hand inside left armpit, moving arm in a flapping direction bolting out "Old McDonald had a farm" in high pitch tune)Seeeeee!!!!!lol

I can't call a coconut shell an instrument but I have heard some amazing melodies and tap your feet to the sounds coming from people who use anything they can find around them. If its a PC.......all good in my book. Its the creativity part counts.

erm.......I think I disagree. Steel drum bands using old oil barrels in the carib, African natives using animal skins stretched over a frame Chinese using gourds with holes drilled into them ..... I imagine 80% of the world has never heard of music theory and yet they make great music.

and i'm guessing from the context of your question it meant playing music using computers as opposed to using a computer to compose music....musicians have been using computers to "fake" or "assist" their playing skills on traditional instruments for decades...

A musician can use anything they want to create. Music at its purest as an art could be made by anything, that is up to the artist and their concepts and personal discretion. Whether it is considered music by the listener is completely subjective.

musicians are just moving with the time period but some choose to stick with the classical approach

I like this question. :D I think this one and the "funnyest" word question are my two favs so far. Nicely done!biggrin Now as to the question itself...I keep waffling. I WANT to say that a musician is someone who plays an instrument...BUT if someone really has an ear for music and can put it together well via computer, but can't play an instrument, that should still be considered a musician....it's a tough one....I'll get back to you on it. titter
