I'm a huge GoT fan. I watch the shows and read the books. I like George R. R. Martin's work a lot.
How many of you are crazy for Game of Thrones? Do you watch the TV show? Do you read the books? If you're a fan, too, tell me what you like best about GoT! :)
EDIT: The Fan Arsenal is going up, part by part. It's my personal collection of all things Martin and GoT and I hope it helps to hold you over until Season 3. AND WE CAN ALWAYS GEEK OUT HERE ABOUT GoT TOO!!!! LOL

I love Game Of Thrones and get really excited when I know it is going to be on, if I was a girl I would probably squeal and clap my hands (I do squeal and clap my hands, please don’t tell anyone I do that) I have not read the books yet and I will do when the televised stuff is over and done with. Books are always better than TV or film so I know I can read the books later and they will be brilliant, but if I read the books now it will spoil the surprise of what is coming in the program. I can’t believe I have to wait so long for it to come back on TV. I love the theme tune as well and the animation that takes place when it starts. I don’t sing along (because I didn’t know there were any words, and I am too busy squealing and clapping) but I have got an Mp3 of the tune (A Song of Fire And Ice)

Ultimately, I think you should do whatever's best for you. But since you asked my opinion, why don't you split the difference?
Download the books in Game of Thrones (A Fan's Arsenal) 1 A Song of Ice and Fire (above) and read BOOK ONE. They've already done book one so you won't have to worry about spoilers. How's that sound to you? :)
If you're a fan of the show, there's another download (see above) called Game of Thrones (A Fan's Arsenal) 2 Game of Thrones that covers the first two seasons we've already seen as a companion to the show. :)
And don't STFU - these boards are all about geeking out about Games of Thrones, the books, and George RR Martin !!!!

Yes, I agree House Stark is awesome. But for some reason I like Jaime Lannister. Benjen ended up being my heart throb on the show though and it pissed me off he's missing.
I won't give away anything in case others haven;t read the books though. Jon's okay. For some reason I just can;t quite get into him. Show-wise I guess I say I Tyrion clicks with me because he's short and witty (so am I)
I uploaded part two of my arsenal and it has music and video in it. There's a medieval cover of the GoT theme as well as one on a hurdy gurdy you might like. Also, the videos talk about weapons and costumes and such. Yes, you and I, I guess we are BOTH total geeks lol

I'm not crazy about that version because it's not very well mixed. There are better out there and you can find a few here

I like a lot of the others better. I have them included in my "Game of Thrones A Fan's Arsenal" PART TWO so everyone can geek out. My favorite heavier pieces included in the download is "Game of Thrones The Rains of Castamere (whitenoiselab).mp3" but I looove this one "Game of Thrones Theme Classical Guitar (Charlie Parra del Riego).mp3" and the Hurdy Gurdy cover "Game of Thrones Theme Hurdy Gurdy (CherniGriss).mp3"

Um, I squeal. I sing a long. I'm a girl but I don't care lol SING WITH ME LOL Btw, The books are long but well-written. They're thick so at first glance it can be daunting. But honestly they're so well-written it just takes you over. If you don't have the books you can download "Game of Thrones A Fan's Arsenal" PART ONE (see above for link, it's my personal collection) and it includes lots of stuff like Coats of Arms and Guides and Maps, too. I hate waiting for Season Three, especially having read the books and knowing what we're getting into. (SPOILER ALERT: Red Wedding, ASoFaI fans!) I can;t wait to see how they pull Season Three off. Until then, I figured I;d start a thread, hang out with other GoT freaks, and upload my personal arsenal so we could all geek out together lol PS: In "Game of Thrones A Fan's Arsenal" PART TWO I put in a CRAPLOAD of mp3's - all fan made music and it's pretty good stuff. Don;t forget to tell me which ones you like best. :)

I am so tempted to download the books but I must resist because if I do, I know I will read them (Zero willpower) and that will spoil the show for me. I will definitely read them though after the show has finished. I don’t have a problem with big books (In fact the weightier the tomb the better) I read the complete Lord of the rings when I was nine. Game of thrones in my opinion is actually better than Lord of the rings (by quite a long way)

I am so excited about series three, the way this series finished with the white walker on the dead horse was brilliant. I have been so impressed with how the effects in the show have been handled. Everything has a very real feel to it, the metal and the stonework is used and worn looking. Far too often fantasy is made to look shiny and sparkly but this show makes me believe what I am seeing. Maybe this is part of the advantage (for me at least) to having not read the books. I know if I had read them before seeing the show then no matter how well the show was done, I would be a bit disappointed that it was not as good as the books. This way I get to be blown away by the show, and then blown away again, when I read the books.

I love what they;re doing with the show. I have videos about how they are making the show and I watch them all the time. I have every episode too so I re-watch them a lot. It's so much fun! A lot of my friends haven;t read the books and they're just discovering GRR Martin's work now. Some feel the way that you do. Others couldn't get enough and dove into the books. I suppose it's a matter of preference. I treat the books like the books and the show like the show. The show, although a close adaptation, isn't exactly like the books, so I get quite a few surprises. Example: The character of Ros doesn't exist in the books.

I am a GOT fan. I read all the books except 1st one because I watched the season1 of GOT and couldnt wait to know what happened next.
My fav characters are: Tyrion, Arya and Bryan. John snow is good character but bit boring.
House Stark FTW! :D

I don't know why but I like Jaime Lannister in spite of myself. My favourite character on the show was Benjen Stark and we all know we don't hear from him again so that pissed me off lol I think Tyrion is witty. I don't know who Bryan is though, did you mean Bran? (I typo all the time, too.)

Watched the TV series which is good but not great. Loved all five books, just read the 5th. I live in fear George R R Martin will get hit by a bus before he finished the series (I used to worry Stephen King would die before he finished the Dark Tower books, now I wish he had done lol, they got real sucky). My favourite character in the books is the imp. But I have a soft spot for cripples, bastards and broken things titter The imps too pretty on the tv show but I do like his sellsword (Bryon, Brion, something like that) the actor is cast perfectly.
Whats the prequel trilogy called?

OMG I know he's getting up there in age, isn't he? GEORGE WRITE FASTER DAMMIT !!!!!!!!!! I really like the show but I confess the books are better. Have you seen the comics yet? Have you had a chance to read the prequel series? I only call it a prequel because it's all about the same place, different time, and gives history to Westeros etc. I like that the prequel trilogy gives history through the eyes of one of the characters mentioned in the books that was dead by the time ASoFaI was written. Have you read Fevre yet btw?

I'm a huge fan of the universe R.R. created. It easily beats Tolkien's universe in LOTR. I'm getting the book series through mail from USA in a few weeks. I watched both seasons twice. My mom and I discuss the issues, politics, characters, etc. in the GoT world everyday almost. Great blog, I don't know if there is a group here on KAT about GoT but we need one.

OMG I discuss it with my peeps too lol It's because of that and being here at KAT that I'm uploading my personal collections so I totally get it. I really dig the way Martin does world creation. And isn't with languages, too? The books, the show, the prequels, the graphic novels, I just can;t get enough, can you? :)
